Relegation six pointer

Charlton currently lead the Championship Relegation League, but face six pointer at home to Portsmouth at The Valley tonight.   Blackburn, under new management, are now just one point behind the Addicks, having managed to probe the defensive weaknesses of the Super Hoops at the weekend.   Despite being the chosen club 'C' list West London celebs (aka Giles Coren), QPR are very erratic.

Pompey don't have the best of away records, having won just two, drawn five and lost seven.   They have scored just nine goals and conceded 23, more than any other clubs apart from the Baggies and the Massives.

After their 0-1 defeat to the Blades on Saturday, gaffer John Mourinho admitted they didn't show enough composure in front of goal and slashed at a few opportunities.   He noted that tonight's game at Charlton was the biggest one between now and the end of the season for the club in 21st place.

Stockport could be a bigger challenge than Pompey

Congratulations to Portsmouth on their promotion to the Championship, that's one less worry for pitch announcer Brian Cole.

Inevitably former Leamington Colby Bishop scored for Pompey last night.   We could have had him for £50k but he was snapped up by Accrington and then by Portsmouth.

Portsmouth's departure is not altogether good news for us as we were a bit of a bogey team for them, unbeaten against them this year.

Stockport are the only club whose ground I have visited both for Charlton and for my non-league club Leamington.   Their fans were a lot of trouble when they came to Harbury Lane and one got on the pich and poured a pint of beer over our then goal keeper. the Barmy Binman.

Stockport see League One as a way station to their rightful place in the Championship so they will be in confident mood.   Confidence is important in football, but it is also possible to be over confident.

Let's win it for Brian

Popular pitch announcer Brian Cole has plaintively tweeted that his wife and all her family are Portsmouth supporters, so let's send him back to Portsea Island tonight with a win.  I do remember going to his home at Portsmouth for a buffet after we had won at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth have a better away than home record, having won seven, drawn two and lost just one.   They have scored 19 goals and conceded 7.

Nevertheless, I am staying with my Badger League prediction of a 2-2 draw, although I have slipped to third place in the West Sussex CASC prediction league table.
