Charlton become the new Crewe

The most interesting part of the announcement of the move of Jonjo Shelvey to Liverpool is the strategic partnership between the club for the development of players. This could involve movement in either direction, but what it most likely means is that we will see promising Liverpool youngsters playing at The Valley next season.

Charlton get an intial £1.7m for Shelvey, which is a little below what I was anticipating, but with payments for appearances, it could rise to £3m: Shelvey

It was evident that Shelvey was not going to fulfill his potential at Charlton and the money should ease financial worries. Announcing the move now might reassure creditors ready to swoop at the end of the season.

What a depressing season even if we have made the playoffs.Have we forgotten early cup exitsand depressing football. All long ball and push and shove.I have no quarrel with Parky but would suggest a radical overhaul of the coaching staff and a promotion for messrs Mathews and Avery to enable us to play decent football.

If this relationship with Liverpool is going to be as successful as our previous much trumpeted link-up with Inter, I for one can hardly stay awake at the prospect.

Creditors Wyn? Isn't Mr Murray the club's biggest creditor? Scaremongering already - shame on you. There will be enough ill-informed doom laden guff spouted about Charlton's finances between now and August without you setting the ball rolling. Careful what you wish for...

I don't think I am scaremongering as normally reliable sources are indicating this money is required to pay the April wages bill. Significant debts include the loans relating to the Covered End project. In relation to Robin's comment, the Inter Milan relationship was affected by changes in personnel at their end.

So let's hope that Benitez doesn't get the sack, Gerrard leaves and the club get new owners..... Oh!
