Friendly deal?

Charlton are chasing Doncaster Rovers central defender George Friend (he can also play at left back). It is hoped that it may be possible to secure a deal with the cash strapped club for the 24-year old for just £100,000: Friend

Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Middlesbrough have also expressed an interest over the summer.

Born in Barnstaple, Devon Friend started his career at Exeter City, but then moved on to Wolves. During his stay there he had a loan spell at Millwall. Career

Charlton won 1-0 in last night's friendly at Sporting Club de Portugal with a last minute goal by Johnnie Jackson. Chris Powell has said that he thought that it was a good performance by the Addicks.

I'm a bit behind on news and wondering why we seem quite as 'cash-strapped' - is it genuinely the owners pulling back on spend OR is CP really SO happy with the Div 1 squad ? Or is it just high Championship wages ?

Sorry I meant that Doncaster Rovers are cash strapped and are therefore prepared to accept any reasonable offer.

Sorry, Rovers are not "cash strapped". The owners have set a tight budget, based on relegation, but which is esigned to reflect income and the amount they will provide to the club each year. Unlike other clubs they are determined to budget and manage properly. In order to add to the squad the wage bill, which reflects championship wages, needs to be reduced. It is for this reaon that Rovers will sell, but they will not take derisory offrs - only those that reflect the real value of the players in question; the busget then being allocated to new players and wages.
