Super Kev sees bright future for Addicks

Super Kevin Lisbie now runs a workshop for young strikers after retiring from non-league football last summer at the age of 40. He played a key role in the FA Vase campaign of Cray Valley Paper Mills, particularly in the semi-final: Super Kevin Lisbie Unfortunately the Eltham-based club were defeated in the final at Wembley and Lisbie was substituted: Lisbie's Wembley farewell.

However, it was a great end to a long football career. He spent more than a decade at The Valley.

He is convinced that Charlton can go from strength to strength under new ownership. 'If someone takes over your club, you just want people who care and now that ESI have come in I think that's what we'll get.'

Having spent time alongside Lee Bowyer, Lisbie thinks that the very spirit and determination that Bowyer displayed in his playing years is what Charlton wants in the coming months. Lisbie thinks that he made a massive difference when came in as manager in League One.

Lisbie told The Football League Paper: 'Charlton replicate the player Lee was and that's a good thing because you need to be resilient in the Championship.' Lisbie thinks that when Bowyer came in as manager, 'the players ran a bit further, tackled a bit harder and they were giving their all.'

The former Jamaica international was eager to praise Macauley Bonne: 'I think he has done well this year. I thought the jump might be too big for him, but he's come in and scored goals. I watched him a lot at Leyton Orient and there's games when he's not involved at all but all of a sudden he scores goals.'

Super Kev continued: 'This league is so relentless that he needs relaxing and managing. It's hard work, the Championship, and to do what he does giving his absolute all week in, week out is really tough.'

Bostock loan move as Super Kev speaks out

Reports are linking Charlton with a loan move for Nottingham Forest midfielder John Bostock: Rest of the season deal?

Bostock was the youngest ever player to appear for Crystal Palace. He has had a lot of loan experience and has also played in Belgium and France: Career details

Am I excited? Not very, but needs must. It is difficult to get hold of quality players in the January transfer window. I am more cautious than many about the extent to which the new owners will splash the cash.

We also need to remember that the UAE is threatened by developments in the Gulf. The UAE has tried to remain on tolerably good terms with Iran, but there are a lot of underlying tensions and it is very vulnerable to attack.

Super Kevin Lisbie has been interviewed by The Football League Paper and is full of praise for the new owners. A summary will appear here later in the day.

Super Kev backs Slade to take Charlton up

Super Kevin Lisbie who spent three seasons at Orient under Russell Slade as manager reckons that the new Charlton manager will be able to take the Addicks up, comparing him to Alan Curbishley in terms of his ability to pick teams to win: Super Kev

Orient striker Dean Cox could be an early target for Slade. Read about him here: Dean Cox

Lisbie provides the goals - and the food

Former Addicks striker Super Kevin Lisbie is providing lots of goals for table topping Leyton Orient. He scored his ninth of the season in yesterday's 2-1 victory over MK Dons with what was rated as a 'clever finish'.

However, Super Kev is also providing the meals when the team breaks for training on away trips. His wife Joanna cooks West Indian meals for the striker and the other players used to smell it and ask for some. A deal was agreed whereby Joanna gets paid for providing 15-20 meals for each away trip. No recipes are provided, but chicken seems to feature prominently.

Charlton seek traction

Ipswich warm up before their defeat against Wolves on Wednesday night

It's a relegation zone battle at Portman Road on Saturday with second from bottom Ipswich facing third from bottom Charlton. One of my best memories of an away game is at Ipswich when we beat them 5-1, including a Leaburn hattrick. One Tractors fan took such exception that he confronted me in the car park afterwards and said I should be ashamed to wear the Charlton shirt. Shame was not my predominant emotion.

On another occasion they beat us 2-0 in the pouring rain, only enlivened by the one appearance of our Iranian international as a substitute and one female supporter bringing a blow up doll of Andy Hunt. But then we also a had 1-0 victory when an excellent breakaway goal was scored by Super Kevin Lisbie.

There's no doubt that the transition from League 1 to the Championship has been a tough one for the Addicks. The game is played at a faster pace, passing is more accurate and defences are stronger (although not by that much). Resorting to the long ball is not the answer.

However, for those who would sack Chris Powell and follow the AFC Wimbledon route of advertising on the web for a new manager, I would urge caution. Powell did not get all the strengthening that the team needed over the summer. One narrative has five players waiting to sign contracts at The Valley with the plug pulled at the last minute.

To be fair most fans are not calling for Sir Chris's head but calling on him to 'sort it 'aht'. But that is easier said than done. Although I think there is much to be said for a Fuller start, he is probably not yet fully fit. Bradley Wright-Phillips has been working his socks off and Yann Kermorgant has shown that he can still pop up and score goals.

In fact the real problem is not up front but our inability to control the midfield. Bringing in Green certainly helped, but I would also start Kerkar who seems to have been lively against Derby.

It is also worth noting that the Massives, seen by many as certain promotion contenders, are not having it all their own way. A 3-0 defeat at Brighton was followed by a 1-3 defeat at home to Huddersfield last night.

Addicks in for Lisbie?

Reports from Ipswich Town sources are claiming that Charlton may be about to make a move for the Addicks' former striker, Super Kevin Lisbie.

I have seen Lisbie score some brilliant goals, including one away at Ipswich. I have also seen him miss more sitters than almost any Charlton striker I can remember.

I once took a Canadian friend to a game when we were in the Premiership. We were in the Upper West that day and had a good view when Lisbie failed to put the ball in the net from six yards out with the keeper stranded.

'How much do I pay that guy?' expostulated the Bloke Beside Us. My Canadian friend was very amused.

Lisbie's red card appealed

Colchester United are appealing the red card given to Kevin Lisbie towards the end of last night's game at Charlton. Having earlier been given a yellow, the striker lunged at Nicky Bailey in front of the referee and was given a straight red.

Millwall have confirmed that Lisbie is a transfer target.
