No Charlton content, and no Charlton link that I can immediately think of, but I was saddened to hear that Sir Bobby Robson had finally lost his long battle against cancer. I agree that he was a gentleman giant of the game: Robson
What a great loss. I don't think there will be a true fan in the country who wont be saddened by this news. As you said mate a gentleman giant. God bless Bobby John Walker
I got so fed up with the stick he got when England manager I stopped buying newspapers - I rarely buy one now. He took on that role at a time when it really started to change, and he didn't have the support that the incumbents do now. Apart from getting us to that semi, I understand he played a major part in progressing the England youth set up. Top bloke.
Felt like a grandpa to me, as a forty year old I grew up with him always in the background often the foreground of my football mad youth. I feel honoured to have been a teenager when he managed England and football was my life. A gentleman, a genius football manager, someone to be proud of as an Englishman, someone to look up to, a big lump in my throat. A sad sad day for football.
I doubt very much whether there will ever be another of Sir Bobby's type in English Football. That breed of passionate and inspirational English managers held its best until last and now sadly he is gone.

Agreed with all of that John. Great football man who bridged generations. RIP Sir Bobby

He was, of course, from a working class Durham mining background - like Sam Bartram. That sort of person is disappearing from the game.
