Returning players give hope

Nathaniel Chalobah and Matty Godden are back in full training for Charlton Athletic ahead of Saturday’s home game against Norwich City.  Striker Godden, 35, has not featured since the opening fixture of the Championship season. He scored the opening goal of the new campaign in a 3-1 victory at Cheltenham Town.

Midfielder Chalobah has been absent for the last eight league fixtures. All of the Addicks’ wins this season have been when the 31-year-old has started.

The absence of Chalobah, in particular, appears to have been keenly felt.  “When he started four games, we won four games and then we haven’t won since,” Jones told South London Sport Charlton edition. “Look, it’s not all about Nathaniel Chalobah. But what he was brought here to do was give us an element of control and to play quickly through the thirds. He did that.”

The under fire supremo commented: ‘“We believe we have a clear way of playing, a clear way of coaching and a clear way of prepping for games. Then it is up to people to implement that game plan. At times we implement it fantastically well, at times we implement and then certain things go wrong and other times we don’t. That is the inconsistency of things.”

Forecast weather conditions on Saturday may nor favour an attempt at fluent football.
