Pope gets manager's blessing

York City have kept fourteen clean sheets in their last sixteen games and a lot of the credit goes to Charlton loan keeper Nick Pope. The Minstermen have enjoyed a revival which has put them in the play off places after Pope arrived in the nick of time in January.

Manager Nigel Worthington commented, 'Nick's been an absolute revelation to us. At 22 he's barely started his career, but his performances for such a young man have been exceptional, really authoritative. That's a big part of why we crossed that fine line of turning draws into wins.'

Could Pope take over in the Championship next season if Hamer leaves? Probably not, although he would arguably be up to League 1 standard if the Addicks were relegated. But would he want to be No.2 to Hamer or a new keeper?

I think Pope could be our no 1 next season. I know the goal keeping coach for Dartord and he said early last last year, watch out for Pope he is going to be a really good keeper! To keep that many clean sheets it doesn't matter what division you are in, you must be quite a good solid keeper.
I actually wouldn't be sorry to see Hammer leave, he does makes some great saves but also makes some really bad errors plus never really commands his box for corners or free kicks! He is very quick to blame his defense but never likes to accept when he has made a cock-up. Has anyone noticed when he makes a bloomer he quite often feigns injury!

I would like see Pope given a chance at least till jan next season ive not been impressed by hamer for the past 2 seasons he makes to many errors by not consontrating on his own game ,he spends more time bollacking the defenders in front of him.Ok hes made the odd quality save but the last couple of performances have not been good enough.I think hes been tapped up by a couple prem clubs since the fa cup performance he be off as soon as someone makes a bid.Sorry for being critical on hamer but i dont rate him one bit

The reality is, Pope could be playing League 1 for either team (unless he is not loaned back to York)next season. I just bloody well hope not though
