Charlton are among companies named and shamed by government as one of 191 firms that failed to pay the legally required minimum wage (under previous ownership between 2011-18). Sixteen employees were involved.
Sheffield United, Coventry City, Oldham Athletic, Crewe, and
Portsmouth are the other clubs listed. Charlton's underpayment was £1,880 whereas that of Sheffield United was nearly £22k.
Another reason to be glad we are under new ownership. It has been pointed out that 'Roland Duchâtelet who started the Belgian political party "Vivant" with the founding principle of a basic income guarantee for all citizens also owned a football club that failed to pay minimum wage to a number of its employees.'
