'Gobby' blames referee for Varsity draw

When he was Charlton manager, one of Karl Robinson's favourite lines from his Great Big Book of Excuses was that he was a victim of a referees' conspiracy.  It seems he still is to judge from his verdict on last Saturday's 1-1 draw in the Varsity game against Cambridge United.

'Gobby' blamed the draw on referee David Rock's decision not to award a penalty for a challenge on Billy Bodin: 'It's a blatant penalty.  He gave two free kicks against my players for exactly the same contact.  He's bottled that decision.'

However, the fuming supremo had to admit that was not the whole story: 'Our sloppiness in the final third, our finishing wasn't at it.  We got into four or five outstanding positions and we didn't exploit that.'

In May Robinson was given a four match touchline ban and a £4,500 fine after being found guilty of violent conduct at the match at Sunderland.   This followed a one match ban for conduct at Crewe.  Robinson said he had no remorse for his conduct at Sunderland, it was how he had been brought up.
