Farewell then, Carl Jenkinson

According to the official site Carl Jenkinson has turned down a new and improved contract with the Addicks (Chris Solly has signed a two year deal).

He was not in the squad last night and I understand that he will not play for the club again. Of his suitors, he may prefer the Gooners over Manchester United as he is an Arsenal fan.

Stuff happens.

Will the compensation be one off or dependent upon future fees?

It will be one off. I am told the amount may depend on the contract we offer him.

He's not a Premier League player yet and first team football would help him improve. That said, staying at Charlton is probably not the best idea for his career development. A move to a Championship club would probably suit best or maybe Arseanl will loan him out to a Championship team. Shame he's leaving but most kids playing for Charlton would have their heads turned by Arseanl.

A sign of the times. It is an area Arsenal are particularly strong, so he will be at least no 4 as a left back, and no 3 at left back. So he will have to be happy taking the money, and then going out on loan maybe!

I will be at the biggest game in history of Crowborough RFC tomorrow where they host Heathfield for promotion from London SE3 with Charlton Park lurking in 3rd place. It is however almost certainly a winner takes all game.

It doesn't bode well for the future either. The changes in the academy systems, the relaxing of the ninety minute rule are only going to make it easier for youngsters to sign for the richest clubs earlier.
