Richard Murray has admitted that Charlton could have gone into administration if the directors have not pumped £15m into the club:
Murray
When we ask for this or that player to be signed, we need to remind ourselves that what is really important is have a club that is solvent and still playing.

But where has all the money gone?Cannot be all on wages. If you look at the buys and sales over the last 4 years we are in a profit.A more open explanation would be welcomed by the shareholders ans season ticket holders.
One might ask Iain Dowie, temporarily c/o Loftus Road. Premiership wages are very high and can't be got rid of overnight. Coming out of the Premiership is a big financial blow, even with parachute payments.
cafc are a plc and the running of it is entirely the boards responsibility with the shareholders [not the fans ] approval .if i look back on our recent decline ,it starts with the sale of scott parker and [save for darren bent] some very poor signings indeed from curbs made even worse by the naivete of our management board in backing dowie
we are still in a better position than our crumbling eastern terrrace days of late 70s early 80s so lets look ahead ,with sound sensible management we can return to premiership a little wiser but we must learn that continuity in management [curbs] a good thing doesnt breed complacency .the board didnt have a proper post curbs plan and that is why we suffered
It does not matter if you put in 10 million or 100pound into the club you deserve an explanation.Who was responsible for Andrew Mills for General Manager appointment?Who gave Dowie the O.K. to spend all that money when Curbs was denied?Who set the wages budget so high that we are in this mess?Where is the parachute money going? Are we budgeting for failure?
answers only in my opinion
1] richard murray
2] murray although dowie and curbs culpable
3]mills ,varney and murray
4] to cover loss of sky revenue and exposure to remaining premiership contracts
5] wd hope that budgets are set accordingly
personally i am a big murray fan
Lets make sure we get Nicky Bailey in as i think he could be the new Mark Kinsella.Remember how we nearly missed him over dithering?
we shd be v supportive of richard murray despite my remarks, nobody came forward to support him at a dreadful period in his life and i will always associate his tenure with success at our club ..i admire his understated modesty ,reflecting what cafc stand for ...no running on the pitch and kicking footballs for him .. i have a long memory !!!!
or is nicky bailey the new dean sinclair ?
We are all entitled to an opinion and the response from Charlton fans has in general been pretty good. Personally I don't think people who invest millions of pounds into our club need to give me any explanation at all. Although it's nice when they do.
Like a lot of people, I detest Iain Dowie for his failured tenure but at the same time my common sense head kicks in and I realize that the squad he inherited was not very good,he was asked to commit to an unworkable staffing structure, any signing is in essense a gamble and most premiership teams are only a few games away from failure.
We went down for a lot of reasons not due to the mistakes of one person. It's also time to move on from this, accept the cards we have been dealt and just enjoy the fact we still have a club.
I think you hit the nail on the head Johnny73.
We should also all remember that the board also kept their promise to price season tickets at level that ensured we remained a family club for our entire stay in the Premier League. Let the moaners go to Chelsea or Spurs and check the prices there! Success costs money and for what we were being asked to contribute, I don't think the board is required to answer to anyone. definately time to move on!
Surely the board were answerable when we were a PLC, to the shareholders.
Anyway I believe at the start of every season they always had various budget plans, including relegation.
The facts are NOW in the Championship and without much money (if any) So just enjoy what football we produce and you never know......
