Pards shares his pain

Alan Pardew has gone public with his pain about the state of the club, revealing that he did not realise the extent of the financial plight (perhaps he should have gone to the bloggers' meeting):

I've just read Chappell's comments. I get the impression that he wants a committed squad who are playing for the club and not for the shop window and their careers.

Sounds a bit more like the Charlton of old.

I'm easily swayed - but I do like the sound of this.

The comments in the BBC article are a far cry from the pieces on the official site. Pards' piece makes very good reading in my opinion:

I think Pard's comments are silly really .
I could have told him what the club's financial situation was and I don't even work there.
It smacks of getting his excuses in early ( worryingly)
Part of the reason we are skint is because of the rubbish decisions on loan players ( and just far too many players) that he made last year

I think we can all read a lot into the comments. My assessment is that Pards knew players would go, but did not expect to lose those he considered to be amongst our most talented.

I agree with the approach Chappell is taking, but he may be showing his inexperience. That kind of committed squad does not exist in modern football.

He will be gone by end of Sept.So will the Chinaman and we will be in a relegation fight

All players are keen to play at the highest level and you would want that - it is called ambition. Do we want to fill our squad with players who think the Championship with Charlton is just lovely and don't have the quality or drive to progress. That is what I read into Chappell's comments and was not impressed.
