Amdy Faye on his way

Church bells rang out in south-east London last night as the news filtered through that Amdy Faye was on trial at Stoke (the football club, not the court) and that the Potteries club was likely to make an offer of £1m for him (that is money they would pay to Charlton rather than the other way round).

Whilst the press are saying that the Glaziers are saying that Crystal Palace had an offer turned down for impressive midfielder Nicky Bailey, the Southend site says that it was the Addicks who made the bid.

Just need Charlton to announce that Luke Young transfer had a sell on clause and we would be in the money

I do find it amazing that we expect total loyalty and effort from players but at the same time we expect them to take the abuse that we have dished out to the likes of Faye. He may have disappointed in a CAFC shirt, but he didn't decide the transfer fee and if his agent did a job on us for his wages then basically it's our own fault. Our abuse may not have made him a bad player but it couldn't have helped his motivation.

I know from comments on the list that there is a widely shared view that Faye was not given a fair go at Charlton and was not able to realise his potential. Nevertheless, recent performances would suggest that he is not really interested in playing for us which is why he went to Rangers last year. If he does go to Stoke it's a win-win for us and Faye and, who knows, possibly for Stoke. I would be intrigued to know if Luke Young does have a sell on clause as then we might be able to afford to bring in Sodje.

If Faye goes I'm as please as the next fan. Reduce the wage bill and maybe get some money for him. He has been a total failure at the club. Selling makes sense.

My problem is fans and club alike have been coming out with negative comments re faye for over a year, when a small chance always existed that we might not have been able to get rid of him. We would then be stuck with an unwanted unmotivated player on probably the highest wages at the club.

I can understand an emotional response from fans, but the club should have taken a more neutral approach like 'Amdy would like to play in a higher league, and we hope to find him a club, but for now he's a cafc player and he needs to show the world how good he is'.

A bit long winded but I hope you see my point.

Amdy Faye has just signed on loan at Stoke. Not a transfer
