Scunny in for Parky

Phil Parkinson's spell without a job may be coming to end after he was short listed for the managerial vacancy at Scunthorpe. His main rival is Danny Wilson who recently left Swindon. Less favoured short listed candidates are Kilmarnock's Mixu Paatelainen and Bury's Alan Knill.

Parkinson is thought to have already been interviewed. It will be difficult for Scunny to avoid relegation with visits to Norwich and QPR coming up. However, if the club is relegated, Parkinson with his 'impressive' record in League 1 is thought to be the man to lead the yo-yo club straight back up again. [What are they on in Scunthorpe?]

So it could be a return to The Valley for Phil Parkinson next year.

Your criticism of Parkinson is pretty pathetic.

He has got Colchester promoted from League 1, took us to play-offs last year and was set to follow that up with play-offs/automatic again this year.

That is a good record.

Agreed, it may not have been pretty over the few months before he left, but his record at eking out results was not that bad, and I suspect he would have eked out a few more over the last month.

As one of those who was never sure he was the right man for the Charlton job (our form since his departure seems to suggest actually he probably was) I wish him well in whatever job he gets next.

Scunny will be just what he needs - a bunch of hoofers.

Thank god he's gone.

I'd have thought it'd be the perfect job for him. Expectations will be lower and there will not be a demand to play with style as there was at Charlton.

I found us unwatchable at times under him, but the past three months have proved he 'overachieved' in results terms at least (perhaps Mr Slater might acknowledge this too one day) and with a weaker squad than we have now. He's a decent chap too who comes over well in the media.

Rumours that we refused them permission to interview Powell are unfounded incidentally.

At a club where there is less pressure, Parky will do well, as demonstrated by his record at Colchester. Powell's record makes his predecessor look like a miracle worker. Scunny is far nearer his family home in York & the job would be ideal for him. I wish him well, he is a decent man who deserves to be back in the game.

surprised at you win, you have always been objective in your blog but this is a cheap snipe at someone who did his best at halting our club grim spiraling out of existence. You are better than this - aren't you?

Wyn, not win - fat fingers

I felt the comment about Parkinson was a bit tongue n cheek and not a swipe at him. Keep up the good blogs Flynn....even fatter fingers, sorry Wyn

When Parkinson was manager I was always less critical of him than many because I thought (and still think) the main problem was the players. It was difficult to find anyone to say a good word about him. Now if you have the slightest dig at him, plenty of defenders appear over the horizon. The League Paper yesterday said that his sacking was 'hrash', but if you look at performances rather than results, or where we were in the form table, was it so unfair?

Our performances under Parky this season were apart from one,or two, exceptions, absolute garbage. In most of the wins we scraped home, we easily could have lost the majority of those games. Although murray was to blame for allowing about 20 players to go pre season ,the replacements Parky brought in were poor, jackson aside. Before anyone tries to talk about the lack of money he had just look at the players Orient signed or even Yeovil. We sign Mcoxo and Francis from a relegated team, they sign Dawson from Bury on a free. This guy plays like a young kinsella.Yeovils forwards are better than Parkys signings. We may have muddled our way into the playoffs under him,but i think as the form table showed teams were finding us out towards his end.Though Powell was the wrong appointment Parky had to go.

I think Wyn you'll find that I supported him, read the blog. If you supported him while he was with us why have you joined the herd now he is no longer here.

Kap, I'm sure you did. The comment was a general one. I thought that on balance the decision of the board to replace him was the right one. I am sure that he will find a new job, even if not at Scunthorpe.

I think to say now, after 11 games without a win, that on balance sacking Parky was the right decision sounds stupidly stubborn.

Perhaps the mistake was to appoint Powell not to sack Parky. They are distinct decisions.
