Soon time to head down those tracks

The arrival of my CAFC Picks and West Sussex CASC Badger League entries reminds me that it will soon be time to get on the train at London Bridge and head down the line to Charlton. In its literature The Shard points to The New Den as one of the landmarks, but does say 'it is the most feared football stadium in London.'

I will have more difficulty than usual in making my end-of-season forecast. The players and the manager are untested. However, having failed to make as much as they wanted of the defeat at Welling, the pessimists have piped down in the last week or two as promising new players have arrived.

If you pressed me, I would say solid mid-table, with more chance of reaching the play offs than being relegated.

At the end of last season, partly as a reaction to those who saw nothing but doom ahead, I was foolish enough to predict that we will be promoted this season. Having seen some of our new signings now, I may not have been as foolish as some think. However, it's unlikely that the team will gel as quickly as our promotion squad did under CP and we may have to wait until September/October to see how well we are going to do and how quickly Peeters can get us playing as a team. However, I stand by my prediction and look forward to seeing some exciting, attacking football. Will Championship defences be able to contain Gudmunsson, Tucudean and Vetokele? I think not.

One of the Charlton bloggers said, regarding rumours that Reza had gone, that all eyes would be on Sparrows Lane on Monday to see if he would be there? Was he, do you know?

Sorry, don't know at the moment.

Season ticckets are being sent out today. Does anyone know how many we have sold so far?

I did hear a figure of 8,000, but that may have been exceeded by now.

Brian G said...

Thanks, Wyn. I believe that 8,000 is lower than last year's figure at this stage. Is that correct?

Wyn Grant said...

I would think so, but that figure may not be up to date. Each year one has fans who say they will not renew and eventually do.
