Charlton claim back Crown Berger

The Crown Berger cup will be back in the trophy room at The Valley this evening after Charlton made a good start to their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory over Welling United at Park View Road.

Both goals were scored by Karlan Ahearne-Grant in the first nine minutes. Bauer looked a strong addition to the team. The second half was very different, a young team which levelled things up more. Welling themselves hit the woodwork twice and tested Pope.

The attendance was 2,100. It was very hot.

There was a pitch invasion at the end of the game, but not of the type that led Blackpool's pre-season opener to be abandoned.

If you were worried about Gudmundsson's absence, he was at a concert at Wembley last night according to his tweets.

Worrying lack of depth. Wiggins played wide left and Diarra centre back. 2nd half was the youth team with Pope, Harriott and Pigott (from Wembley to Welling.)
