Valley of disappointment

Gilmanton, N.H.: The Gilmanton year round library is the subject of some controversy in these parts, but I am mighty glad of its facilities to keep up with events at The Valley. What looked like three points for Charlton against Dagenham and Redbridge, ended up in a 2-2 home draw and plenty of complaining from the Addickted.

What struck me first was that once again our goals did not come from our strikers, but from two defenders. Martin hit the bar early on, but then Llera converted from a Jackson penalty. Racon gave away a penalty just before the break and the Daggers levelled.

It looked as if Charlton had won the match as it entered time added on when Jackson made good use of a Racon cross, but once again the Addicks failed to hold on to a lead.

It seems from the stats that we edged the match: possession 53-47; seven shots on target to five; and nine corners to three. Ten shots off target suggests a need for a bit more accuracy.

So Charlton remain in mid-table, but far from out of touch with the leaders. All is far from lost, but it is deeply disappointing.

We played the best football in the first 40 minutes I have seen in months. We hit the bar,the post and totally dominated the game. The pen knocked the stuffing out of us, and was only the second shot Worner was asked to save. The D&R manager had an eay 1/2 time talk, and Parky didn't. Whatever he said, appeared to have a negative effect on the la, and we were quite frankly crap in th second half. It was like watching a different side. Admittedly the ref didn't do us any favours, but still, we really should be putting teams like The Daggers to the sword. Their keeper wound up The Covered End with his odd behaviour.

Still not sure re Francis, was trying to see who was to blame for their second, looked their striker got on the inside of him to head in.
A strange game, we started full of confidence and played a good passing against a team that looked bereft of confidence. Tried to see tactically what they did differently or was it we just sat back and let them in. As the game went on (and we were unlucky with injuries) thought a number of our players tired, especially LLera & Martin.
I've seen various blogs either blaming the midfield or our strikers, I think it's a bit of both, Semedo is good defensively but no midfield maestro, and Racon as yet does not seem to have that strong attacking midfield presence that we had in Parker, Kinsella or Holland, that gave us options going forward. We try the wings and when blocked resort to long balls.
Still we didn't lose, and there is still a small amount of time
to sort a system that offers a better threat.

Thought their keeper Roberts, did well under a barrage of abuse for being fat, which included him showing off his stomach, but he wasn't sure what to do when they sang get your tits out for the lads.... but did get a laugh out of the North stand, so fair play to him.
