With one goal conceded in the last seven matches and eight clean sheets out of thirteen, Charlton goalkeeper Nick Pope is aiding the surge of York City up League Two. After Saturday's 1-0 away victory at Portsmouth, the Minstermen are now in the play off places and are top of the form table. Pope has played a key role in their progress: Pope
With Ben Hamer's future in doubt, Pope is looking well placed to be No.2 keeper next year and possibly No.1 if we are relegated.

Wyn, A friend of mine is the goal keeping coach in one of the teams in the Football Conference. He knows and has watched Pope play and says he is one of the best young prospects around! So lets hope we keep him, as whilst Hammer is good at shot stopping, his command of the area for high balls, crosses, free kicks etc is quite poor along with his distribution! Pope could be our new real quality goalie, as per Dean Kiely!
Glad you mentioned Hamer's distribution - absolutely terrible for a professional and he still attempts show-boat balls out of defence off the outside of his foot aimed at the touchline. I'd tell him he's dropped next time he does it but the alternative is worse.
