We Get Our Money Back

The depature of Majid Bougherra to Rangers for £2.5m means that we have recouped the sum we paid for him to Sheffield Wednesday. The competition between Real Betis, the Baggies and Rangers seems to have been cleverly managed by the club, although apparently it was all getting to the player.

Bougherra was a quality player as the competition for his signature suggests, but he was not an outstanding player. Rangers have got a much better deal than they did with Faye, a shame that they could not be tempted by a 'two for one' package.

What about 3.25% inflation

Good point. However, we have had some use of the asset during the period of ownership and although we have paying a wage for that, at least we have not incurred a significant capital loss. In any case, cash flow is king at the club at the moment which it has to be. We are still £1m down on the net sum that needed to be raised over the summer.

As a player, Bougherra is no sad loss. We should easily find somebody of similar ablility in the lower leagues, perhaps even somebody who can stay fit for five minutes.

Bougherra's no massive loss, but the amount of players gone and the replacements that have come in do worry me. Yes, we are obviously struggling financially but all the vibes and rumours dont appear to be about signing or acquiring defenders which is what we need. I'm really worried about the lack of activity in the transfer market reference players coming in. More exits are expected. The defence needs strengthening and we need a creative midfielder. We dont need any more forwards. We should start by 'reviewing' the goal keeping post. Anyone else agree ? If we have a solid defence, we can achieve something. The balance was never right last year ! Pardew's not the only manager that has to operate with limited finances. This season could be a very difficult one for us and we will really see what Pards is made of I think.

Look like pards is not a happy bunny. Quote from radio interview :
Pardew said decisions have been forced upon him by circumstance. "The agenda that I was given this year was a bit of a shock to me, especially the financial situation we're in which wasn't made clear to me," he said.

"It means I've had to sell three or four players that I only signed last year."
