The slide continues

Charlton's slide towards League 1 under the stewardship of Alan Pardew continued at The Valley tonight as the Addicks 0-2 to Bristol City. Saturday's opponents, Burnley, enjoyed a convincing 3-1 win at Coventry.

The stats favour Charlton. The Addicks hit the woodwork once and had 22 goal attempts to 17 by the visitors. They were ahead in terms on on target shots by 13 to 10. They had nine corners to Bristol City's five, but they were clearly unproductive.

Pards staged a double substitution on 57 minutes, taking off Gray and Ambrose in favour of Chris Dickson and Lloyd Sam. On 75 minutes he tried his final throw of the dice by taking off Bouazza and bringing on Todorov.

Advance sight of Pardew's comments suggest the following: 'We aren't getting the rub of the green at the moment. I thought we were on top for the first thirty minutes, but then they got the ball in the net which put us up against it. Then they got a second goal in the second half and it was game over. There were a few people out there I was not happy with and they know who they are.'

Given the uncertainty about the club's ownership, nothing is likely to happen soon. But Parkinson and Kinsell as caretakers could hardly do worse.

As the club for fairly obvious reasons can't or won't sack him at this time, lets hope he does the honourable thing and resigns!

Actually, I think my cat could do better. What do they do on the training ground? "Let's practice some corners today" or "Here's what a good throw-in looks like", or "If we go a goal down, this is how we respond" or "Hey Bouazza, before shooting at goal, look to see if a colleague is better placed"
This squad has talent as the first 20 minutes showed. However, they have no organisation and once Bristol got through the first half an hour they just played straight through us. Matty used to say that training under Curbs was boring as they did so much work on drils and routines - but at least they were well organised.

I don't think we the fans deserve League 1. I for sure don't want it, or "little ole Charlton".

Don't forget the other Pardew excuse - "the crowd really got to us". I thought we did damn well considering what we had to put up with. Time for a change. He does not know what to do, and I have some sympathy, but the writing is on the wall.

Still counting gaols from corners - still only about 4 in 4 years.

Are Bristol City's players better than ours? I really don't know, but I wouldn't have thought so. However, tonight, and as they did last March, they looked much better balanced, organised and coached than we did. I agree that Pardew appears to have no idea what to do to put things right. I'm afraid that it is now hard to avoid the conclusion that our position will only improve by chance; i.e. a couple of "random" wins to build some momentum. I'm a great believer in continuity, but I think his days may be numbered. If the Zabeel deal goes through the first question they'll ask Richard Murray is "Do we have the right manager?". If you were him, what would your answer be?

For the first twenty minutes we looked the part, we should have taken at least one if not two of our chances, then the inevitable goal scored by a well organised but beatable team. The usual complete collapse of moral and structure followed. Some payers competely disappeared - i.e. Ambrose. I was dissappointed that the crowdwod booed Youga, his confidence seems low and booing won't help him. It wasn't his fault the strikers seem inept in front of goal, and the Bailey's mid-field lapse couldn't be blamed on him either. Moutakil looked pacey but understandibly lacked confidence. We have an underperforming un-confident side. Clearly Pardew is not performing his role properly. I can recall hamsters moaning when he failed to get them promotion in his first season with them. He's now had almost two with us and we are still disorganised. Will he go before he is pushed? I could dsjointed performances like last night against the top premiership clubs but not an average championship side.

Pardew's persistence with Sam, Bouazza, Gray and Todorov is troubling indeed. They lack at least 2 of: ability, heart or athleticism and time has now passed on all 4. Varney attracts increasing criticism and last night missed 2 sitters, sadly his effort and willingness don't make up for his fundamental lack of finishing prowess. Given the above I can't see where the next goal is coming from.
The absence of Racon is definitely hurting the team, Zizi's unavailibity is an empty excuse because he was sold if only he was fit.
Positives? Weaver, Primus and Cranie looked the part in their correct roles. Moo2 looked a bit rusty but is a vastly better right back than Cranie or Pards's mystifying preference for Youga. Youga remains our best bet for left back, Holland gives his all.
No goalscorers at this level, defense dominated by loan players and no creative midfielders prepared to earn their corn. Averaging 1 point per match. Losing tamely to mediocre opposition. This all spells movement in one direction only. Our only current hope seems to rest on Mcleod and Dickson, unproven and inexperienced at this level, getting a chance to play and conjuring up a few goals in spite of the lack of service.

The sad news is the Dubai connection have pulled out following their due diligence.
It appears within the small print we are suppossed to have a Football team.
