Reza faces Argentina on behalf of Iran later today and former Charlton communications supremo Matt Wright has used the occasion to recall when Charlton got embroiled in a row over a refusal to play Iran, not because of missile tests as the Iranians suspected, but because of fixture congestion on a visit to Spain: Iran . Wright refers to the fact that Charlton had signed Karim Bagheri eight years before this dispute, and it may have been a signing that was not unwelcome in government circles when Charlton were seen as 'on message' club by New Labour.
