Iain Dowie's time as a manager at Charlton has thankfully receded into the distance, but his depredations occurred at a crucial time for the club and we have never fully recovered. Thank you, Richard Murray.
A feature in this morning's Non-League Paper on the 54-year old somehow fails to mention his time at Charlton, although all his other postings as a player and a manager get referred to. In any event, we are told that 'he could be proud of what he achieved'.
Dowie reveals, 'I was quite well paid at Hendon and everyone used to put one-third of their salary behind the bar - I was putting more behind it than most.'
When he was at Charlton it was rumoured that he would go for the occasional recuperating drink with his brother and it seems there may have been some substance to that.
