Gray deal close?

The South London Press which acts as a kind of Pravda for the club is reporting that a deal to prise striker Andy Gray from Burnley may be close: Gray

Gray is a proven striker at this level and hence the kind of player we need, although it would affect the position of other players in the pecking order.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Burnley have rejected a Charlton offer: Latest . Reference to a substantial seven figure offer does not mean that we were offering seven fat blokes in exchange.

We are also being linked again with Freddy Eastwood and Wolves might well be prepared to let him go as he has been something of a disappointment for them, plus they have signed an attacking midfielder who claims he can score goals. However, I think Eastwood is both less desirable and less likely than Gray.

Allegedly, Burnley have turned down a 'seven figure' offer from Charlton. In view of the earlier thread explaining the parlous state of our finances. One wonders where a £1m or more is coming from?

One can only assume it would either be raised by player sales or from the additional monies pledged by the directors.

In the annual accounts it states that there is a 1m surplus so far in the current season from player trading and the directors have pledged a further 4m if required. Plus it looks likely that Faye will go to Blackburn and Bent to Wigan, which will raise further sums. It is clear that the club will invest a little bit more in an effort to get premiership status at the first time of asking, knowing that promotion will wipe out the debts. Then it will be a question of adjusting the team to ensure survival in the premiership if promoted.

Our finaces may be bad, but they are still under control and a great deal better than the majority of the championship. Debt is ok, as long as it is covered by assets, e.g. Players values and the Valley. It is when the debt exceeds the value of the assets that it will become a problem, e.g. Leeds.
