Jordan: I would buy Charlton to close them down

Charm merchant Simon Jordan says that he would be happy to be involved with any football club apart from Charlton and would only buy the Addicks to close them down:
Jordan

I have heard some versions of how Richard Murray dealt with Jordan's abusive behaviour towards him on the day we sent the Palace down and I can only say, good for Richard Murray.

Well at least Charlton paid all their bills while at Palace which is more than can be said for Palace while Jordan was in charge. The man isn't fit to clean Murray's shoes let alone try to give him lectures on business ethics.

The man obviously has a selective memory - he 'doesn't like way Charlton fans conduct themselves' If I recall it was during his reign that a group of Palace fans were sent down for hooliganism!

That sheds an interesting light on the usual Palace pose that Brighton are the club they love to hate.

Presumably he'd achieve that by running the club the same way he did Palarse then.......

A colleague at works says that Crystal Palace saved Charlton as when they offered Sellhurst Park, Charlton had nowhere else to play and they would have folded. Being too young to recall first hand, can someone else just briefly explain if he's correct?

What concerned people at the time and has become more evident since is that there were people on the boards of both clubs whose agenda was to merge them, although really it would have been a Palace takeover with the merged club playing at Sellout Park.

Thanks Wyn. So you are not disputing that he is actually correct?

Maybe, but given the shabby way in which we were treated, it is difficult to think that gratitude was the appropriate emotion.

Q: What do the survivors of Hurricane Katrina and Charlton Athletic at Selhurst Park have in common?

A: Both had to live out of portakabins.

Palarse treated Charlton like the Bush administration treated New Orleans.

I like it. Sums it up very nicely.
