The only English words Radostin Kishishev knew when he arrived at Charlton were swear words, according to Chris Powell. The Addicks manager told the Football League Paper, 'He used to just ask us questions in basic English and he took books everywhere. By the time he left he was more fluent in English than the English lads here.'
Powell was responding to questions about the new 'international feel' of the Charlton squad. He admitted that new keeper Yohann Thuram-Ulien speaks very little English, but does not see it as a problem: 'Football is universal. Once they understand the football language they'll be fine.'
