A board that cares

Last night a number of bloggers had a meeting with Charlton chairman Richard Murray for nearly two hours. There aren't many clubs where that would happen and there is no doubt that the club sees the blogging community as an important 'conduit' between the club and the fans.

Most of the information is not for immediate use, but will provide a context that will inform my postings over the next few months. However, I think that I can reveal that the club is constructing a web site in Mandarin which is a welcome step forward as we try to build our overseas support base.

In his closing remarks, Richard Murray made it clear that this was a board which cares which has been evident to all of us. He admits that they haven't always got it right and made the odd mistake. But he feels, with justification, that Charlton is a good club with good people working for it.

Wyn - "information is not for immediate use". Can you explain why bloggers are considered more worthy of being given such information than the rest of us? If it's Murray's dictate I think he should reconsider otherwise we'll be having a blogger elite who are 'in the know' and somehow more important than the rest of us - an unhappy situation.

Actually much of what was said can be found on the Drinking During the Game blog. I was not quite clear about how much could be revealed. I think the general thinking of the club was that bloggers were an important information conduit and it was important for them to be as well informed as possible. But considerations arising from the fact that the club is a company limited what could be said.

Looks like ZZ is going nowhere then?

I wouldn't say that. The Chinese Government thinks he should be playing in the Premiership. An offer of around £4m would be accepted.
