Congratulations, Chris Powell!

Today marks Chris Powell's third anniversary in charge at The Valley. This is some achievement when as many of half of England's 92 league clubs have had a manager who has been in position for less than a year and 23 managers have been fired since the beginning of the season.

Will there be a fourth anniversary? This depends on what happens in the rest of the season, how the relationship with Roland develops and whether the new owner thinks that the club needs a foreign manager. I would have thought the odds were against it.

True Charlton legend in every sense - he has done fantastically well whatever situation he has been in as manager....just hope he remains in charge for a long time to come and is given the backing and assistance he needs to make this club a Premiership staple again

I think we should also praise the much maligned Michael Slater & Tony Jiminez for sticking with the manager through the dodgy patches. Richard Murray said publicly that he would have dispensed with Powell's services after his first season.

Three years is getting on for treble the average tenure of a FL manager, so well done to Chris.....& the board who backed him.

Very pleased for Chris - he is something like the 9th longest serving manager in the top four divisions! However, would it be uncharitable to suggest that the one reason the old regime stuck with him despite the lean time most of last season and this was because they didn't have the ready cash to pay him off?

And to add to the conspiracy theories, was there ever any substance behind Wise being installed as the strong favourite to take over after Parkinson was sacked? All in the past, that risk over. Congrats indeed to Sir Chris, but would his best anniversary present be a contract extension?
