Riga tried to get in another striker

Charlton head coach José Riga tried to get in another striker before the loan window closed, but was not successful. Hence, he has to rely on what he already has in the squad: Striker

He may, of course, not have the range of contacts within the game that a British coach would have.

Michael Morrison says that the Addicks will have no one to blame but themselves if they get relegated and he will take personal responsibility: Morrison. He also says that coach José Riga will rely on squad rotation given the hectic pace of games for the rest of the season.

We had a decent striker I seem to remember but our Insane new owner sold him to get back some money on his investment. How stupid is our new owner ? VERY.

Totally agree with the above comment. If we get relegated Duchaelet/Miere must accept a large slice of the blame because this has hurt us more than anything else.

I lost faith when he sold Kermorgant. We have an owner who is apparently very wealthy, but who thinks that saving money on contracts in the short term is more important than preserving our Championship status. That's up to him, it's his money, and he'll apparently get a £4m refund on his purchase if we go down, but I won't watch us in Division One.

How anybody can believe that our chairman wants us to be relegated to save 4 million is beyond me??? PLease put this irritating rumour to bed.

Though I still care about the fate of the club, my commitment to attending ended when Kermo and Stephens were sold and a bunch of second rate dufers were bought in from the owners european group. I think RD or his advisors hugely under-estimated the quality and fitness of player required for the Championship. But more significantly, the new regime has treated supporters as if they are cannon fodder;their financial and emotional support to be taken for granted. For me, the most recent statement from the Board about communication with fans summs up the contempt with wich RD views loyal supporters.
So, although I have a season ticket, I'm not attending games and I have no plans to renew. Its sad for me after supporting the club for 20 years, but its no longe the club that I supported

Relegation and the cost of running the club in League One (assuming an attempt to get promotion) would be much more than £4m. That is why this rumour is rubbish. No one tries to save £4m by spending £6m.

I don't think RD is deliberately seeking relegation, but I do think that he seriously under estimated the quality of players and financial commitment that is required to keep the club in the Championship.
As for the recent statement from the Board about communication with supporters, it just looks inept. Now that the loan window is closed, what is it that RD and the Board have to do that keeps them so busy until te end of the season ? Its not as if they are playing twice a week themselves. A wiser course of action for them would have been to say nothing, but I fear that wisdom is a comodity in short supply.

In response to Anon's post rubbishing the rumour surrounding the possible saving to RD of 4 million if CAFC are relegated, the very least we can say (assuming of course that the rumour is correct) is that it is a possibility that he considered and negotiated a deduction for in the event of it happening. The worrying part in this post is the section in brackets "assuming an attempt to get promotion". On the evidence so far, financial investment in players would not seem to rank that highly in RD's plans, whatever they might be. Why assume that he would spend any of that saving on new players. They could be shipped in from his network.

RD is obviously an intelligent man and a good businessman who is presumably fully conversant in financial matters. He would surely have worked out that relegation would cost him more than he would recoup through a £4m refund. Whether he spends on players to gain promotion or not, income will be considerably lower in League 1 and I suggest that the asset value will decrease by a sum greater than £4m. I reckon, therefore, that he will have overpaid for us even with a £4m refund in those circumstances and that he and his advisors are going to have to work
damn hard to make any money even in the mid-term. Do we have any players that he could sell for any significant sum if that is his intention? No. We just don't have a Parker or a Bent around to generate any real money through sales. I just hope that he means what he says about having a longer term vision for the club, because it's the only thing that would make sense of all this if we end up being relegated.

In response to Brian G, I don't think that too much should be assumed about his business acumen in relation to his football activities and network. I would recommend looking at the article on Chicago Addick's blog about the Duchatelet owned Hungarian outfit Ujpest. Maybe RD is not quite as smart an operator in the football world as he thinks or would like us to believe.

I'm interested to know what Morrison means by personal responsibility? It just bugs me when players are interviewed and come out with meaningless cliches, unless of course he's talking about footing the 4m shortfall for the ex owners, making up the difference in ticket sales and scoring 40 goals next year... it would be better if we just stayed up!!!

I have read the article on Upjest Doza, TR, along with a series of others from England and abroad. The point I was trying to make is that, for a man supposed to be seeking only to make money out of football, he is going a strange way about it. However, you do need something more than sheer luck to become a multi-millionaire - I haven't made it yet - and so I can't believe that it is incompetence on his part. It seems that he does really view ownership of football clubs differently from the traditional poseur owner I just do not yet have a clear view of what this will mean for us fans in terms of results on the pitch and enjoyment of the games, but I guess that it will be an interesting but somewhat bumpy ride over the next season or so.
