Fans divided on Diarra signing

Fans have expressed divergent views about the signing of Alou Diarra. One commented, 'We are his 12th club in the last 15 years - a player at 33 who has been criticised for lack and effort of application and cannot settle down anywhere or hold a regular place in a team (Lyon, Rennes and West Ham) and has played less than twenty games in the last three years. Does not look like a great signing, but you never know.'

The contrary view is that there is more to him than his Wikipedia entry which you can read here Diarra. 'Those of us who remember him as a fine, deep-lying midfielder for Bordeaux in the Champions League not all that long ago, may perhaps view the statistics as, at best, only half the story (as they would appear to have been with Watt, and Bulot recently).

In my view, he's needed cover, no more, no less.

What pessimists?
On paper R. Johnson should be a bad signing but he's done ok not great but 6pts in the 2 he's played in, is great. I don't object to a few risks with short termers as long as they ain't crocked, what I do object to is the same risks taken with long term contracts. Ex West Ham flop or ex World Cup finalist and French captain. Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde or both? time'll tell.

Not a day goes by without a member of the doom and gloom brigade jumping on the chance to find fault with the club.

Cheer up! that's only natural in any walk off life.
It's not as if CAFC's supporters DNA has been altered by regular losses is it? lol

He's had a trial and they've had time to have a good look at him, perhaps at 33 he can do a sure up job until May.
But we seem to be swaying between boys under BPs and now veterans. It's a shame young Gomez is out of favour though, I hope we see the the best of him.

Spoke to a very astute West Ham supporting mate today who told me that Diarra is a quality player who was also overlooked and underrated while he was there. Also read lots of Bordeaux fans who seem to have nothing but praise for him. Hope he gets the nod ahead of Lepoint tomorrow night. Good signing!

Lepoint might be good one day, but did we sign him whilst still in traction in hospital? Perhaps him and F Mousa remember him, next year.

Good to be optimistic. Great to dream. The problem with the prediction of a top 6 finish is the thinness of the squad. An injury / suspension/ loss of form / loss of a key player (as we saw with losing Henderson / Coquelin) can derail a good run.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Roger Johnson signing but that could prove to be a good signing. He is a leader and helps to organise the defence.

Buyens has looked a bit uninterested of late, Jackson is a great leader but picks up injuries, and Le point unproven.

I am pleased to see another addition to midfield. Hopefully Diarra feels he has something to prove in English football.

I am prepared to give him the chance.

We're not going up, or going down. And we are definitely not going to beat Blackburn, nor Derby tonight.
We didn't win a game for three months, so let's not get carried away saying we'll hardly lose again this season.
We'll take another 20 points or so this season and finish 12-14th. Considering we were one of the favourites to go down, and taking into account the state we were in prior to the last two fixtures, we should be happy with that.

Yep, reckon about right, barring the odd miracle!
