I was a year too late in starting life as a Charlton Supporter to have seen Eddie Firmani play and had left to go to New Zealand prior to his second spell, but was fortunate enough to have see his fellow countryman Stuart Leary. Thanks for another year of your diary - I always look for posts. One comment - what happened to the canine match analyst at the Swindon game? Was it past their kennel time!!
I can still see Eddie Firmani's running style in my mind. Arguably the best player ever to play at centre forward (nowadays striker) for our club. Maybe just ahead of my all time favourite Johnny Summers. It is some years since we have had a good quality goal scorer - Mendonca maybe the last one. any body else got any thoughts on this subject?
I was lucky enough to see Eddie on his retrun to CAFC afyter his Italian spell. He was great then and I can remember vividly his magnificent duel with John Charles who had also returned to Cardiff, which resulted in us giving them a thumping in a magnificent season. I really wish I could have seen him in his first CAFC period and his time in Italy: we are really unlucky that television was not around to preserve him for posterity. I can also remember his unique running style, and that of Johnny Summers (and Sam Lawrie)just before then.
The canine match analyst felt bad vibes about the match and refused to come. Also, she has been found to be overweight and is on a diet. One of my great childhood memories is of Eddie Firmani at The Valley. Sir Clive Mendonca was a great goal poacher (just what we have lacked this season) and Darren Bent was our best striker in the recent past. I also liked Andy Hunt who played up front.

Darren Bent?

Anyone remember Matt Tees? A great header of the ball !
Firmani was pure class. His distribution was similar to Bobby Charlton...
anyone care to remember Andy Jones?
