Bristol boss bigs up Charlton

One of the most annoying things this season has been opposing teams claiming that Charlton are still really a Premiership side. Never mind that Darren Bent, Diawara, Scott Carson and Luke Young aren't here any more.

Now Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has been at it. He told BBC Radio Bristol about tomorrow's match: 'It's a big one, for the fact that Charlton are still really a Premiership side. '

'They're still getting the parachute payments, they're still paying the players Premiership money, Premiership stadium and support and it's a good test for us.'

'Every time we come up against a test the lads seem to do well. But Charlton we've got to keep away from us as far as points are concerned, so any result for us down at the Valley would be a good result because it means that Charlton haven't gained any ground on us.'

Of course, you can see why he says it. If they lose, they've been turned over by a Premiership side. Lose or draw and it's a fantastic victory against the odds by the underdogs.

Given that Bristol City are topping the Championship, it's interesting that they're goal difference is only +3 (although they did ship six goals against Ipswich). They've only scored 17 goals away from home and have won seven, drawn five and lost five. One thing you can say about this league, the quality sure does rise to the top!

The BBC are saying that captain Louis Carey is ruled out because of a foot injury, but local sources are reporting that he may be in the squad. (Radio Scilly sports reporter James Watt is in the city tonight).

Bring them on, the cream of Bristol!
