Charlton back in 5th

Charlton resumed their customary 5th position in the Championship today after having secured a rare away victory over Sheffield United, the goals coming from Iwelumo and Sodje.

The line up saw Gray not even on the bench. Apparently he was taken off at Blackpool last week for 'personal reasons' which is a new one on me. Sodje came on in place of Fortune who was on the bench. Both of our wingers on loan signings, Cook and Sinclair, were there at the start of the match with Thomas starting. Halford kept his place at right back despite his roasting from Pards. Iwelumo started up front with Varney.

Chris Iwelumo put the Addicks ahead in time added on at the end of the first half, scoring from close range after ace keeper Paddy Kenny saved from Darren Ambrose.

Scott Sinclair came on on 71 minutes to replace Varney. Supposed danger man for the Blades, Beattie, was withdrawn on 75 minutes in favour of Hulse. Blades only got three shots on target during the game, compared with Charlton's seven.

Sodje sealed the match on 82 minutes, heading in from an Ambrose corner. Charlton scoring from a corner is a rare event, particularly one from Ambrose. Immediately afterwards, Amborse was withdrawn and replaced by Jose Vitor Moreira Semedo to keep the lead secure.

On 90 minutes Blades charm merchant Quinn was sent off for fouling Jose Vitor Semedo. (Holland and McCarthy picked up yellow cards for the Addicks).

So on Tuesday we face league leaders Bristol City at home. We beat them away and I don't see why we can't beat the new kids on the block at home.
