Rickster to stand for Parliament

Rick Everitt

Former Valley Party organiser Rick Everitt is to stand for Labour in the Old Bexley and Sidcup constituency at the next general election. The seat is currently held by disgraced former Conservative MP Derek Conway. It was at one time the seat of former prime minister Edward Heath who had very little knowledge about Charlton.

Rick Everitt is a politics graduate from Reading University. After spending time in a dead end job in the civil service, leaving him time to work on the development of the Voice of the Valley fanzine which he edited, he joined the Greenwich Mercury eventually becoming sports editor. He then became communications supremo at the club and still has a role there as development officer. In that capacity he has been best known for the development of the Valley Express service, popularly known as the Rickshaw.

Rick served as a Bexley councillor until he was defeated at the last elections, being known as the 'Mayor of Welling'. Bexley and Old Sidcup will be a difficult to seat to win, but it may lead to selection for a more winnable seat after the next election.
