I don't expect to find Rick Everitt in my shower in the morning, even metaphorically, but his dulcet tones came over loud and clear on Radio 5 this morning as he described today's big Valley seats clean up operation. Apparently one hundred fans have volunteered their services and more are expected on the day. The Rickster commented that it was to the benefit of the fans as they had to sit in the seats which brought a 'mmm' from the presenter.
Rick said that bringing in professional cleaners to do the job would cost several thousand pounds and it was money the club did not have. Asked to explain the club's financial plight, he referred to relegation from the Premiership to League 1, poor choices of manager and the cost of offloading edxpensive players who often didn't deliver.
Asked if he was optimistic for the season, Rick tactfully said that all fans were optimistic at this stage of the season. The club had financial problems, but the spirit was good.
There are renewed but unconfirmed rumors this morning that we are about to sign Paul Benson from Dagenham & Redbridge and that he will take the No.10 shirt.
