I've spent three enjoyable days in the Isle of Wight with the grandchildren and their mums and I was crossing on the ferry to Southampton when Charlton met QPR at The Valley this afternoon. Just before we drove on I heard that QPR had had a penalty appeal turned down, so it was heartening to find that we had won 1-0 with a last gasp winner from Johnnie Jackson, an important step in our fight back. Perhaps I should stay away from more home games!
The match is the lead one on the Football League Show which means more in depth coverage than usual. Usually on Sundays this is shown on a loop on Channel 301 on Freeview, but it has been displaced by the Winter Olympics. Presumably it will appear on I-player.
Having been in a remote part of the island without WiFi, it was interesting to learn that Chris Powell is engaged in new contract talks: Powell

It was a fairly lacklustre game made memorable by the goal at the end. Charlton were often cautious and, not surprising, lacking confidence. It was more surprising that QPR seemed to be the same, even in the final two minutes there was time for one last QPR attack but they did not seem that interested. The fact there was a single booking during the whole game (that for goal celebration) I guess tells a story. I was saying all match that Charlton were dangerous at corners - what I meant was that dangerous to themselves as nearly every time a corner was taken QPR broke with the ball and looked like scoring. I was yelling take a short one do something different when the corner came over and Johnie Jackson scored, so what do I know? I thought Harriott had a good five minutes at the end and Poyet was very good, he made mistakes but that did not put him off and by the end was a strong presence. Big result and well done.
