No sympathy from Jay Bothroyd

Former Charlton 'striker' Jay Bothroyd shows no sympathy for his former club as Cardiff City head to The Valley to pick up three points to mathematically confirm their play off place from a 'condemned' club (at least that makes a change from 'rock bottom'). No doubt Bothroyd thinks that he didn't get much of a chance at The Valley.

Cardiff are reeling after their 6-0 defeat at Preston and, not surprisingly, think that they have to 'tighten up defensively'. Mind you, our strikers should not pose any threat, but our midfield might. Read more here: Bluebirds

I shall be in London today, but at Another Place so Philippa Nicholson will provide a match report.

I see that takeover rumours have started up again, but as far as I know it's all paper talk.

And Jay Bothroyd is totally correct in his opinion

Agree entirely David,Bothroyd should have been a useful asset for us.Yet another player who has flourished away from SE7.

I hate to disagree but I thought Bothroyd looked way out of his depth when he played for us, and he was released when we were an established Premier League side.

Granted, he has done OK at Cardiff, but he has only scored 12 goals in 41 games, in a side that has scored 63.

His record at Wolves was hardly inspiring either, 12 goals in 55 games.

Granted he could have done a job for us in the Championship, but is probably no better than we had last season.

On the whole I have very few regrets at letting him go. His behaviour getting Hudson sent off an Ninien Park was disgraceful.

I would predict that he will hardly feature for Cardiff next season irrespective as to which division they end up in. For a striker just two weeks short of his 27th birthday to have managed just 46 goals (in 225 starts) he is hardly prolific.

Dowie didn't think Bothroyd was good enough, which no one can say is wrong - since then he's been a Championship player for a few years.

The bigger mistake was if he was going to let him go, he should have replaced him. We ended up with two Bents, JFH and Lisbie. Lisbie always had injury problems (which seem to disappear once he left...), JFH was old and the Bents both had the odd injury. Four strikers wasn't enough.

Thr things is KHA only Ebanks-Blake Scotland,McCormack & Doyle have scored significantly more goals in the Championship.

He is not,nor ever will be,a goal machine. He is the target man who brings others into play as well as chipping in with a few goals along the way.He fills the Iwelumo role if you like. With rare exceptions such a player is a must in this League.

Big Chris was not universally popular at the Valley but how he has been missed this season.Bothroyd can fill that role & has a sweet left-foot at set pieces to boot.

Ask Ross McCormack how much of his success is down to Bothroyd.

Ketts- I see where you're coming from but Bothroyd's failure was his own fault. He was lazy and never showed any of the target man strengths you've mentioned. He was only good from free kicks or if the opposition didn't close down his left foot shots.

I'm with KHA. I was glad to see the back of him. He also had a poor disciplinary record at the time, though this has since improved.

Despite all this, he is guaranteed to score tonight.

Very average player, who nonetheless suffered from being in a squad that was far too big. Big Chris Iwelumu should have been valued more, and was a bigger lose than most Addicks had preedicted.
